What happens on each day
Day 1 — Tuesday 28 July (Purnima begins in the evening)
The utsav opens with flag hoisting and the start of the akhand parayan — continuous reading of the Sai Satcharitra that runs through the festival. Evening onwards, the queues begin to build as the tithi starts. If you want a relatively calm darshan during the utsav, the morning of the 28th is your best window.
Day 2 — Wednesday 29 July (main day)
Guru Purnima proper begins with a pre-dawn abhishek of the Sai padukas at the Samadhi Mandir around 4 AM, followed by Kakad Aarti. Through the day devotees offer guru-diksha and the traditional guru-pooja; the palki procession of Baba’s photo and padukas moves from the Samadhi Mandir to Dwarkamai and Chavadi in the evening. Expect the Samadhi Mandir to run extended hours with the heaviest queues of the year outside Ram Navami and Punyatithi.
Day 3 — Thursday 30 July
The concluding day carries the utsav programme through the final parayan sessions and evening aartis. Crowds ease compared to the 29th but remain well above normal weekdays — treat it like a peak weekend.
Darshan strategy: realistic queue expectations
On the main day, the free darshan queue can stretch to 4–6 hours at peak (roughly 8 AM to 2 PM). Three ways to keep it manageable:
- Go pre-dawn or late night. Queues on the 29th are shortest before Kakad Aarti (arrive by 3:30 AM) and after 9:30 PM.
- Consider the 28th morning. You get the utsav atmosphere with roughly half the main-day crowd.
- Check paid passes early. The ₹200 priority pass and aarti passes sell out days ahead for festival dates — and the Sansthan can restrict or suspend paid passes on the heaviest days, so treat the official portal as the only source of truth. By road, expect parking restrictions near the temple on 28–30 July; buses and taxis drop farther out than usual.

Standard yatra rules and dress code apply, with extra enforcement during the utsav: conservative dress, no large bags in the darshan lines, and phones silenced inside the Samadhi Mandir.
